E-Waste Recycling Grants Available

The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation is offering a fourth round of grant funding from the Environmental Protection
Fund for collection and recycling of eligible electronic wastes (e-waste).

Approximately $900,000 is available to cities, towns and villages across the state to help them mitigate expenses. Approximately
$900,000 will be available for the 2018 funding period (January 1, 2018-December 31, 2018). DEC will accept applications beginning
January 1, 2019 and no later than February 28, 2019. Municipalities may receive reimbursement of up to 50% of eligible expenses.

DEC Grant Available for Food Donation and Food Scraps Recycling

Not-for-profit emergency food relief organizations are eligible to receive funding to increase the availability of wholesome food to those in need, including the purchase of equipment such as refrigerators for fruits and vegetables and staff expenses that result in increased collection and distribution of food. Municipalities are eligible for funds to promote the reduction of wasted food, increase food donation efforts, and for increased food scraps recycling through the construction of composting facilities or other means.

Grant funding totaling $800,000 is being made available for emergency food release organizations, due February 1, 2019. There will be an informational webinar on September 19 at 1 pm. Eligible applicants are 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporations whose projects include providing wholesome food to those in need, either directly or indirectly. Food Banks are ineligible for this grant program since DEC already has a contract in place to fund activities at the Food Banks. This program provides a 90% reimbursement to non-profits. Total awards can range from $100 to $15,000 per applicant. Eligible projects are:

 Personal Services (e.g., staffing and fringe benefits)
 Supplies and Services (e.g., outreach materials, publications)
 Equipment (e.g., freezers, refrigerators, vehicles, physical space expansion, insulated food transporters)
 Contractual Services
 Travel Costs

It is important to note that not-for-profit applicants that have not registered for the Grants Gateway and are not prequalified in the Grants Gateway by February 1, 2019 cannot be evaluated and will be disqualified.

Grant funding totaling $1.2 million is being made available for municipalities, due March 1, 2019. There will be an informational webinar on September 26 at 1 pm. Total awards can range from $1,000 to $250,000 per applicant. Funding for staff is limited to $150,000. Eligible projects and grant match are:

 Outreach and Education Materials – 80% reimbursement
 Equipment and Construction – 50% reimbursement
 Staff – 80% reimbursement
