FIRE DISTRICT
The Town of Rutland is covered
by three (3) separate fire departments. they cover the entire Town outside
the Village of Black River. They all operate under the authority of the Town
of Rutland Fire District who owns most of the equipment and raises the necessary
tax money to operate most of the department's expenses.
The District is governed by a Board of Fire Commissioners who are elected
by the public. There are five (5) commissioners who are elected one (1) each
year for a five (5) year term. The annual election is held the 2nd Tuesday
of December at the Rutland Fire Hall. All persons eligible to vote at the
General Election are eligible to vote in the Fire District election.
Commissioners meet the 4th Monday (except January and December) of each month
at 7pm at the Rutland Fire Hall. These meetings are open to the general public.
