The Champion Town Board met in special session on February 13, 1998 to discuss the ad valorum tax on roll section 8 parcels within Champion Water District #1 and other necessary business. Present was Supervisor Buckley,

Councilmen Miller and Stewart.

Supervisor Buckley reported that parcels on roll section 8 that are within the boundaries of Champion Water District #1 were omitted in the calculations for the ad valorum tax on parcels in the district. The Board discussed options and altermatives suggested by Jefferson County Real Property Tax Service.

Motion by Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Miller to assess those properties in roll section-8 at $1.00 per $1000 assessed valuation with a minimum of $100.00. Ayes-3, Nays-0. Motion carried.

Supervisor Buckley reported that a meeting will be held on Thursday, February 26, 1998 at 7:00pm at the Great Bend Fire Hall to update district residents on the status of district funding and to present information and obtain public comment on the proposed sewer district. He encouraged Board members to attend.

An Open House will be held at the Municipal Building on Sunday, March 22, 1998 from 2-4pm for Town of Champion residents and invited guests to tour the new offices and public rooms.

Motion by Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Miller to approve the purchase of carpet for the Supervisor and Clerk’s offices at a cost of $1327.00 installed.

Ayes-3, Nays-0. Motion carried.

Motion by Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Miller to purchase a sign from Signs & Designs for $1300.00. Ayes-3, Nays-0. Motion carried. The sign will be installed for the March Open House.

Supervisor Buckley reported that the American Legion has asked for permission to participate in the Open House ceremonies. They would like to present to the Town of Champion its first flag for the Municipal Building. Supervisor Buckley is in discussions with Niagara Mohawk to obtain the flag pole in front of the old Niagara Mohawk offices for the Town at no cost.

Bernier, Carr & Associates are donating a bronze plaque for the Municipal Building Open House and dedication.

Motion by Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Miller to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 10:30am.
