OLD HOME DAY
Old Home Day is an annual event held on the 4th of July in the
Hamlet of Champion. The day is hosted by Champion Grange #18 which was organized
in October, 1873 and has served the community since receiving its charter from
the State of New York.
Old Home Day activities include a parade, chicken barbeque, and
cake walk. The parade proceeds when the Grange bell is rung and is unique to
the area because you get to view the parade from both sides. The parade winds
through the Hamlet center, circles around, and comes back past the assembled
crowd from the opposite direction!
Old Home Day is a celebration of small town America. It reflects
the agricultural traditions of the Grange and the rural values, of patriotism,
volunteerism and neighborliness, that are the keystones of the community.
